Dermal exfoliation is the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface, or epidermis. Exfoliation of these old cells accelerates the growth of new cells and helps to improve the health and appearance of the skin.
Dermaplaning: Dermaplaning is a simple procedure whereby the epidermis is exfoliated and the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the face is removed. The procedure is performed manually by making light feathering strokes on the face with a small scalpel.
Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion involves the mechanical exfoliation of the epidermis. A diamond-tipped device gently exfoliates the epidermis and vacuums removed skin while also cleaning the skin’s pores.
